Corn. A lot of Denver's scariest stuff happens in it. Terror in the Corn in Erie is a mile-long walk through a cornfield into an abandoned ghost town, and admission gets you into the fall festival and its 25-acre corn maze too. It's not recommended for kids under 10. Plan ahead, though: entry is timed, slots are limited, and Friday or Saturday general admission is $50. If you'd rather stay in town, 13th Floor Haunted House Denver runs two separate haunted houses with their own lines and entrances (don't leave after one).

For a younger crowd, Reinke Brothers Haunted Mansion in Littleton has an all-ages Lights On Tour, and Sunday through Thursday tickets are $22. The oddball pick is Ghosts in the Gardens at Denver Botanic Gardens. It's $34, ages 12 and up, and it's staff and security guard stories told around the grounds after dark. New stories start every 15 minutes. Dress in layers. It's mostly outdoors.
