Two haunts, one waiver station. The Beast Haunted Attraction and Edge of Hell Haunted Attraction are both in the West Bottoms and sell combo tickets. The Beast is multi-story, with voodoo curses, witch trials, Jack the Ripper and, for some reason, a slide. Edge of Hell goes for pitch-black caves, snake pits and rat-infested crypts. Plan ahead, though: they want you at the Central Waiver Station at 1300 W. 13th a full hour before your entry time.
Want rides with your scares? Worlds of Fun Halloween Haunt runs six haunted mazes through Oct 31 and isn't recommended under 13. The unusual stuff here is the ghost hunting. There's a cluster of events at the Alexander Majors House, and out in Lansing you can do a flashlight tour and mini ghost hunt inside the historic Kansas State Penitentiary (12+). FYI: none of the prison buildings have climate control, so dress for the weather.
