If you only do one history thing, I'd start with the Salem Witch Museum October Events, half-hour presentations on the 1692 trials. Plan ahead, though: tickets are online only and go on sale at 10:00 PM the night before. For a walking tour, Vampire Ghost Adventures Walking Tour is the odd one, led by a vampire guide, with what they say are real haunted objects and a stop inside the Chambers of Terror. They suggest 13+ for the gory details.

In town, Salem's Witch Mansion is a fully automated walk-through with animatronics and ghost illusions, $15 for adults plus a fee. Call ahead to check hours, since October weekend hours depend on weather and crowds. For a full-on scream park, you'll have to drive. Spooky World Presents Nightmare New England is up in Litchfield, NH, about 38 miles away, with five haunted attractions including a hayride. Check in at least 30 minutes before your time slot.
